SPAR HOT SUMMER OF TOUCH - Under 2 weeks to go!
With just under 2 weeks to go until start of the 2008 SPAR Hot Summer of the excitement is building. The series kicks off on Camps Bay beach where a record number of teams are expected to try their luck against the best the beach has to offer!
With the recent flooding in the Overberg region, there had been some doubt as to the state of some of the coastlines beaches, but after a few weeks of relative dry conditions as well as the much needed South Easterly winds, the majority of beaches are beginning to resemble what we have become accustomed to, although a lot smaller.
The defending champions, the Nomads will once again be up against it with their arch rivals and former champions the Shufflers back this year as well as fellow stalwarts the Dwergies and Barloworld warriors. The Dark Horses could well be the Stellenbosch based Outsiders who have had a good year on the grass and will be keen to take that form to the beaches.
The series stages 7 events this year and whilst all the events carry even Grand Prix points, the stand-out tournaments are Struisbaai with an individual prize pool of R30 000 and Stilbaai which this year hosts its 30th birthday where big celebrations are expected.
Spectators can expect to see a number of past players enjoying the sun and the action as well as a host of celebrities including the likes of Deon Bing the KFM Surf guru who will be the MC at all the events.
