SERIES ENDS ON A HIGH
[Sunday, January 4, 2009 19:08:15]The 2008 SPAR Hot Summer of Touch came to a close on Wednesday with a wonderful turnout of budding Touch Rugby stars and thousands of eager spectators.
The capacity field entertained the large crowd with a level of skills which would make some of our professional players proud!
With many of the recognised teams already out of the running in the Grand Prix and not attending the event, some of the rising stars took advantage and secured some good wins to progress further than they would have expected in the tournament.
There were a few surprises (although somewhat controversial) with the Henties Dwergies losing a tight game to the Nomads 2 in the Quarter Finals as well as the Rugbytech Outsiders losing to the Rugbytech Warriors.
The Semi Finals saw the Nomads 2 defeating the Rugbytech Warriors to book their place in the final against the Vodacom Galaxy Warrior merged team who beat the Itec Nomads in the other Semi Final.
The Vodacom Galaxy Warrior merged team were too strong for a game Nomads 2 team in the final.
The Itec Nomads took the overall honours in the Grand Prix for their 3rd title in 4 years. They were followed closely by the Henties Nomads and the Amazing Galaxy Warriors 1.
