Playing with courage and pride, the Maynard touch team did their recently departed friend and team mate Lee Ardendolf proud by Winning the opening leg at Camps Bay on Saturday.

The SPAR Hot Summer of Touch Kicked off at magnificent Camps Bay on Saturday and a field of 33 teams competed in the Open Tournament as well as the 8 pre invited Pro Series Teams.

With the South Easter blowing all over the peninsula, Camps Bay was spared the gale force conditions literally until the final game took place and a great day  was had by all who attended.

The Open Tournament was won by the Touch Formers of the Strand who edged out the Quali Dwergies Agt Tal.

The new format of the Pro Series dished up some unbelievable touch from the first game with a number of interesting results setting the tone for the series...

Playing with courage and pride, the Maynard touch team did their recently departed friend and team mate Lee Ardendolf proud by Winning the opening leg at Camps Bay on Saturday.

The team were given a difficult draw and schedule having to play their 3 round robin games all within an hour due to them attending the funeral of their former team mate.

With most of the players and spectators sharing an emotional moment of silence before taking the field, the obviously spurred on Maynard boys were too strong for their competitors on the day and they edged out the Shufflers (on home soil) in the final by 2 tries to 1.

The Maynard win sets the rest of the series up nicely with the Itec Nomads and the Amazing Galaxy Warriors, two of the pre season favourites, losing in Semis and Quarters respectively.

The next leg of the tour is at Strand on Wednesday the 16th Dec...
