ITS MAYNARDT TOUCHIES AGAIN
[Monday, December 21, 2009 08:34:08]Sunday the 20th of December saw the 3rd leg of the SPAR Hot Summer of Touch grace the beatiful Onrus beach. Although a little windy, the beach was again packed with spectators and teams anticipating an exciting day of touch. None of the 44 teams (36 in the open tournament) were dissapointed.
The open tournament was once again keenly contested with the 4 finalists of the previous 2 events contesting the Semi Finals. The competition was eventually won by the Touch Formers who beat the Quali Dwergies 8tal in the final.
The shock of the day came when both Open tournament finalists defeated their Pro-Series opposition in the quarter finals. The Quali Dwergies 8tal beating the Itec Nomads and the Touch Formers beating the Amazing Galaxy Warriors. Both games having a 2-1 scoreline.
Maynardt Touchies and the Shufflers proved a road just too far for the brave Open Tournament qualifiers and the front runners of the Pro-Series set up their second final of the tour with 2-1(Maynardt-QualiDwergie 8tal) and 4-0 (Shufflers-Transformers) wins respectively.
The final as could be expected was a very tight affair. The Maynardt Touchies boy's youthful exuberance being too strong on a soft beach for the more experienced Shufflers. The final score was 1-0.
The wins by the Open tournament qualifiers do not entitle them to Grand Prix points and all the Quarter finalist losers take home 2 points each.
The next event moves to Struisbaai (on grass) on Wednesday...
