ITS MAYNARDT TOUCHIES!!!
[Thursday, December 31, 2009 18:50:27]After 7 gruelling tournaments with a backdrop of losing their good friend and team mate Lee Ardendolf, the Maynardt Touchies Team have won the 2009 SPAR Hot Summer of Touch.
A tighter finish to the series could not have been asked for with 3 teams right in contention until the very end. The Shufflers who came into the event on a high after winning Stilbaai and Diaz Beach came unstuck in their quarter final against the Amazing Galaxy Warriors. This meant their only hope of winning the title was for Maynardt and the Itec Nomads to be knocked out before the final. This was not to be as they both won their Semi Finals.
It meant the perfect climax as the winner of the final would infact win the series. The final did not disappoint with both teams giving it their all. The Maynardt boys taking it in the end by 2-1.
The Open tournament was once again an all Strand affair with the Touch Formers taking it against the Reds and ultimately booking their place in the Pro Series for 2010. The Rugbytech Outsiders being the unfortunate relegated team.
The Series ended on Wednesday after what seemed like an eternity after a hectic schedule playing 7 events in just over 2 weeks. With over 400 teams participating, it was the biggest and most succesful series yet.
