REDS SHAKE IT UP AT CAMPS BAY

The Reds have won their maiden Hot Summer of Touch event with a great victory over the Living Legends in the final at Camps Bay.

The youthful Reds didn’t put a foot wrong all day, winning all their group games and after trailing in the final by two tries to one, they showed a growing confidence to equalise and push the game into sudden death extra time.

They then scored a great try to seal the win and take their first title in the three years they have been involved as a Pro Team.

The result will make many of the players and supporters of the series very happy, as the series still remains wide open, chairman of the Western and Southern Cape Beach Touch Association, Rian Myburgh had to say. “ Its great for the game that we have new blood challenging the old guard and I expect this will make the more established teams even hungrier to perform better over the remaining legs of the series.”

The Open series was also once again very keenly contested with the New Born Rebels narrowly beating the Drifters in the final, one- nil.

Another great feature on a beautiful day in Camps Bay was the eight under fifteen teams who had a ball. The competition was finally won by the New Born Squirrels. Overall, forty teams took part and after a long absence at Camps Bay, it is evident that this event has been sorely missed and looks likely to be back for the long haul.

The action moves to Struis Baai on Monday 23rd of December where the tournament takes place on grass, which adds a whole new dimension.
