PHANGELA WARRIORS TAKE IT IN THE STRAND[Sunday, December 17, 2017 12:00:53]
An amazing 70 teams registered to play in the Strand on Saturday and after some early morning wind, the players knuckled down to produce their usual high standards on the beach!
The battle lines have been drawn across all the competitions and it is evident that the smallest mistakes or flashes of brilliance are going to make the difference between winning and losing on the series this year!
Local boys the Phangela Warriors (formally the ODO and VIGO Warriors swept all before them to take a well earned victory in the Pro Series. They are certainly the team to beat, however they will not have it their own way as the Samurai Warriors showed by pushing them to the very end with a brave final performance! The Phangela boys eventually taking it in the drop-off by 1 try to nil.
The challenger Series was won by former Pro Team Hawaiin Blues who definitely look set to try and win their place back in the Pro Series for 2018. They beat Targo Touch by 2-1 in the final.
The AGW ladies from the Bo Kaap did themselves proud with a 2-1 win over the local Score Living Legend ladies. This section looks set to be a keenly contested one as well!
The Open Cup was won by the Rising Stars, an interesting mix of former Pro fringe players who once they click will also be a force to be reckoned with. They won the final against the Carribean Blues by 4-1
The Junior Cup was won by an exciting Reds Jnr team who defeated the Nexus Jnr's in the final by 4-0. Watch out for these youngsters in the Pro's in 2/3 years time!!!:
The Open plate was won by the Perfect gents 1 (2-1) over the Beach Crusaders Vets and the Junior plate was won by the Real Warriors who beat the Targo Juniors by 1-0.
The Action moves to a new venue for the series on Tuesday the 19th in Kleinmond.
